Position Description:
Job Purpose
The Tanzania Media Fund (TMF)
seeks to promote independence and quality in media. Through our
funding and learning activities, we seek to support quality journalism
that better informs the public, contributes to debate and thereby
increases public demand for greater accountability across Tanzania. We
focus on investigative journalism and public interest journalism, and
provide both individual and institutional grants.
TMF
invites applications from qualified Tanzanians to fill the position of
Learning Officer. The Learning Officer will primarily be responsible
for the development and implementation of mentoring and learning
sessions for all individual journalists and tailor-made learning
sessions for media institutions.
Key responsibilities of the Learning Officer:
Organize pre-story, midterm review and post story learning sessions for our grantees, including all logistical arrangements.
Organize and coordinate all Fellowship Programme activities from selection to contracting.
Conduct a series of innovative and well attended master classes at least twice a year
Liaise and coordinate TMF short courses, Media Expo, legal and risks support with the implementing agency.
Other tasks assigned within the team.
Skills and qualifications
A master's university degree (preferred) or at least a first degree in
a relevant field (Journalism, law, communication, education,
sociology, etc)
At least three years' experience in facilitating learning, capacity building and project coordination
Working experience in a media sector
Effective writing, communication and networking abilities in English and Swahili Computer proficiency
Interest and experience in the new media and journalism is an added advantage.
