Eligibility:
Candidates must have a good first degree in Law (or a related
discipline) and preferably should also have completed (or be near to
completing) a postgraduate degree in Law at Masters or an equivalent
level. Hodgson Scholars will be expected to provide a limited degree of
research assistance to the Law School over the course of their doctoral
study. There will also be opportunities to engage in undergraduate
and/or postgraduate teaching (which will be remunerated separately by
the Law School at the standard rate).

Scholarship Description:
The Hodgson Scholarships owe their origin to the Will of Elizabeth
Hodgson, widow of the Liverpool Solicitor Joseph Hodgson, who expressed a
wish to advance the education and training of lawyers who might work
for the benefit of Merseyside. The Trustees wish to support doctoral
researchers who will benefit from the education and training offered at
the University of Liverpool, with a view to encouraging the intellectual
growth of promising legal scholars and to nurturing close links with
the Liverpool city-region. The Liverpool Law School is part of the
School of Law and Social Justice (which also includes the Department of
Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology). Our vibrant research culture
is clustered around a series of groupings, each of which promotes
excellence in their relevant field and provides a supportive and
inspiring environment for postgraduate research.
